The black ribbon couldn’t quite tame the flyaway wisps of the girl’s blonde hair as she sat on the cobblestones, immobile and weeping. Stabbing knives of sunlight and dark phantom shadows from wispy clouds above took turns racing across the square.

Though she wished for it with every part of her being, time, cloaked and forbidding, refused to stand still.
