The black ribbon couldn’t quite tame all the flyaway wisps of the girl’s hair as she sat on the cobblestones, immobile and weeping. Stabbing knives of sunlight and the dark phantom shadows of wispy clouds took turns racing across the square.

Though she wished for it with every part of her being, time, cloaked and forbidding, refused to stand still.
